The College of Music鈥檚 American Music听Research Center (AMRC) is breaking ground听with its innovative Soundscapes of the People听project, a comprehensive research effort in听collaboration with local community stakeholders听to document, preserve and engage with diverse听musical and cultural influences in and around听Pueblo, Colorado.听

The yearlong study will explore ways that听musical traditions have served to bridge social,听ethnic, urban/rural and religious identities.

鈥淧ueblo is home to multiple underrepresented听communities, and their musical histories are听largely undocumented by traditional institutions,鈥澨齭aid AMRC Director and Professor of Musicology听Susan Thomas, who is leading the project.听By working directly with community members,听and documenting their musical experiences and听knowledge through oral histories, the research听team aims to address the lack of representation听and inclusion in the history of southern听Colorado culture.
