Faculty Fellows editionOn the November 28th edition of聽AMPLIFY, host聽Jennifer Ciplet聽and her guests discuss an exciting collaboration between the non-profit community organization聽聽which works with people with disabilities, and the SM调教所聽College of Engineering and Applied Science. Today's guests include聽Professor聽Melinda Piket-May,聽SM调教所 Boulder engineering student Sarah DaFoe, and Director of Public Relations at Imagine!, Fred Hobbs.

Through this university-community partnership, SM调教所 Boulder engineering students develop assistive technology that supports people living with developmental, cognitive and physical challenges. SM调教所 Engage was excited to learn about this program when Associate Professor of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, Professor Piket-May, applied for and joined the聽SM调教所 Engage Faculty Fellows program. Piket-May was a member of the聽2017-18 cohort of SM调教所 Engage Faculty Fellows, which included SM调教所 Boulder聽faculty doing innovative, community-based teaching and research from across聽campus and a wide range of academic departments. Professor Piket-May works with her SM调教所 Boulder undergraduate students to integrate engineering theory with real life engineering design problems, especially engineering challenges that could assist people living with disabilities.

AMPLIFY: Stories of University-Community Collaborations聽is a production of聽SM调教所 Engage, the Center for Community-Based Learning and Research at SM调教所 Boulder, in partnership with independent community radio聽. The show aims to amplify the voices of students and community partners who are working together to generate new knowledge and actions聽to address聽聽public challenges.

The Faculty Fellows in Community-Based Learning聽program of SM调教所 Engage provides resources and support for faculty to design a new course or modify an existing course to include a聽community-based learning聽component.听The aim of the Faculty Fellows Program is to expand, deepen, and institutionalize community-based learning at SM调教所 Boulder.
